I was just diagnosed yesterday with DCIS situ which my physician said was pre-cancerous. I had a stereotactic core biopsy last week with findings of calcifications. My physician has referred me to a surgeon to do a lumpectomy and perhaps temoxiphin. I am a high risk as my mother, aunt and 2 first cousins have all had breast cancer. 3 out of 4 are survivors. I'm very nervous and scared, but my physician seems to think I have a good prognosis.
Any good words of reassurance for me??
Thanks

Hi Lyndi 1,

My name is Peta and I work for at Breastlink in the Long Beach Office. I have read your post and was wondering if you have had any genetic counseling or testing. With your family history it may be something you could and perhaps should consider. As far as being diagnosed with DCIS, have you had a second opinion? This is a very frightening time and sometimes a second opinion can help you feel more confident in the decisions you will ultimately need to make regarding your treatment and care. There is a quite a large section in Dr. Link and Dr. Waismans book "The Breast Cancer Survivor Manual" on the subject of DCIS. The book is available at bookstores or in any of our offices.

If you feel you would like to talk to me about what we do here and what we offer, please feel free to call me at any time. My number is 562 933 7820.
