I found a lump on a Thursday night, went to Ob-gyn on Friday, she said she felt it and also glandular tissue too. So I went right for a mammogram in the same office. They called 2 days later and said they wanted me to get a sterotactic biopsy in 4 days, they said they found a density. That will be this coming Tuesday, this is all going so fast which makes me think they are thinking the worse. I do the breast self-exam each month and I don't know how this lump got as big (about the size of a large marble flattened out) as it is without me noticing it earlier. What worries me is that under my arm and the side of my breast aches, not all the time but enough to make me worry. A question I have is that I had blood test done 12/04 when I joined Physicians Weight Loss and all my levels were good except my cholesterol. So would my blood test be normal if this were a Cancer. Don't your red or white blood cells go high or low when you have Cancer I have not been able to find anything on the web about blood tests and breast Cancer. I am 40 years old and no family history of Breast Cancer just my mom has breast calcifications. Does anyone have any info for me? Thanks

Hi Sherry.

I'm reading this post right now three months after you posted it.

Anyway, how's things going? I hope well and that you're taking good care of yourself. (Now is a time to spoil you!)

I've been through much of what you've been through. Diagnosed with Stage II, have had all the treatment, have been done with chemo two years next month. My biggest problem with it now is lymphedema (Stage 1), but I've gotten it under control and am catching on with how to manage it.

I'm not a medical person, and you probably have an answer by now to your blood test questions, but, I can tell you that the test for cholestrol (sp?), etc. has nothing to do with a cancer blood test, as I understand it. Medical people jump in with any corrections if necessary, please.

Hi to both Sherry and Carolyn. My name is Peta (I work for Breastlink) and I am so sorry I have neglected to respond to your posts. First to you Sherry. In answer to your question, a cholesterol blood test will not reveal any cancer cells. If you have been diagnosed with cancer there are some specific blood tests that can be routinely run, but even these don't give us the any definitave answers. We could only wish it were as easy as a blood test! I am sure you have these answers by now but please feel free to ask any more questions you may have and I will get the answers for you if I dont have them myself.

If indeed you have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer, please let me know what and how you are doing. If you were given the gift of a benign diagnosis I am compltely thrilled for you.

Secondly to Carolyn. I understand you are coping with Lymphadema. In fact, the topic on our monthly live chat last month was that of lymphodema. If you log onto this website under "online chat" you can go to the archives and view the transcript from that session. Just maybe it will have some helpful information for you.

Thanks for the reply, Peta.

I did come into the Lymphedema chat late, and I've been meaning to come back here for the complete transcript. Now I'm here and I'll do it now. : )
