In one of the posts on this forum there was the following site mentioned that is very helpful:
http://www.healthsearches.org
If you search "biopsy" you will see the different kinds and have more information going into you procedure. It is scary but you have been doing the right thing with monthly breast exams and now you have available to you a medical test that will tell you what the lump is.
I had a needle biopsy in May 2004. It was done in the Radiologist's office with a technician helping. They offered a nice robe and I laid on my side on a table. It was done with ultrasound to locate the tumor and then the needle was inserted 3-5 times. Resulting in a small bits of the tissue that they put in separate little containers. It was mildly painful -- really more of a pressure. Kind of reminded me of the guns they used to pierce ears (it has a sound similar to that.) I was sore a couple hours later and a little through the night. I received the results in 2-3 days. And my doctor went over them with me.
Keep asking questions especially of your doctors. Lois
