Research/Grant

• Optical Biosensor for the Early Detection of Breast Cancer - Pilot project involving the use of a nitrocellulose filter for examining nipple secretions for the presence of proteins associated with breast cancer. Clinical project at the City of Hope in conjunction with Los Alamos Laboratories. (PI - I. Benjamin Paz, MD/John Shively, PhD; Co-I Carey Cullinane, MD)
• Decisions and Outcomes in Palliative Surgery - Primary project of clinical fellowship. $1,478,047 grant funded by the American Cancer Society. Responsibility to perform epidemiologic evaluation of palliative surgery cases at the City of Hope. (PI- Betty R. Ferrell, PhD)
• Hyaluronidase Levels in Breast Disease - Utilizing RE-PCR, RNA was extracted from paraffin embedded tissues of patients with benign, non-invasive and invasive breast disease. An elevated level of hyaluronidase was associated with invasive disease. Surgical resident research project - 1993.
