In our ongoing commitment to promote healthy lifestyles Breastlink is now offering nutrition support services for all women wishing to learn more about healthy nutrition and diet strategies.
Whether you are a breast cancer survivor, family member or friend, nutrition matters. Research shows that a healthy diet combined with regular physical activity can help in breast cancer prevention, in addition to reducing risk for other medical conditions including heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.
To support the effort of all women to embrace a healthy lifestyle, Breastlink has teamed with registered dietitian nutritionist Nancy Link, R.D.N., to provide nutrition education and counseling as part of our comprehensive breast health services.
Nutrition for Breast Cancer Survivors and Breast Cancer Prevention
It should be stressed that no single nutrient, dietary supplement or diet plan will completely eliminate cancer risk or cure cancer. However, a growing body of evidence suggests diet and nutrition play an important role in reducing breast cancer risk, in addition to supporting healthy recovery during and after breast cancer treatment.
For optimal health it is important to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight. Recent research shows that obesity may increase the risk of some types of cancer, including breast cancer and increase the risk for other medical conditions.
The American Cancer Society recommends the following for breast cancer prevention and breast cancer survivors:
- Maintain a healthy body weight.
- Engage in physical activity for at least 30 minutes per day.
- Eat a nutritious diet with an emphasis on plant foods.
