American Cancer Society Orange County to Honor Oncologist Dr. John Link and Businessman Dale Lyon at the Celebration of Life Gala
Santa Ana, CA –June 5, 2014 – The American Cancer Society’s Orange County Region will hold its fourth annual Celebration of Life Gala to support the American Cancer Society’s fight for a world with less cancer and more birthdays at the Hotel Irvine on Saturday, September 27, 2014. John Link, M.D. of Irvine, a medical oncologist and founder of Breastlink will be the Medical Honoree for his life-long efforts to save lives from cancer. Dale Lyon of Lake Forest, the Senior Vice President of Construction for Olen Properties, will be the Corporate Honoree for his support of the fight against cancer.
Dr. John Link is recognized as one of the foremost breast cancer doctors in the world. He is a medical oncologist at Breastlink, the comprehensive breast cancer group that he founded in 1995. He is a researcher, teacher, and author. Dr. Link knows that some breast cancer patients are overtreated, and others are undertreated. As an open-minded and experienced oncologist, he works with patients to empower and educate them about their cancer journey.
Dale Lyon is not only a corporate leader, but also a cancer survivor. Diagnosed with cancer in his throat in December 2011, he underwent several weeks of a new radiation therapy that spared his healthy tissue and focused on his cancerous tonsils. Painful treatments and recovery were part of his life then. Mr. Lyon joined the Relay For Life of Lake Forest as part of the team “We Got This” which was his mantra. He has been cancer-free since the summer of 2012, and is now an active member of the cancer community, inspiring others to fight cancer, too.
“I am honored to be recognized by the American Cancer Society,” John Link, M.D. said. “The Society continues to be a leader in cancer research to find cures and fight back against a disease that has touched all of us,” he added.
Guests will enjoy an evening of elegant dining and enjoyable entertainment, with an opportunity to bid on generously donated luxury items at the silent and live auctions.
“This year’s gala is themed: Finishing the Fight and with the support of our Orange County community, we will do just that with the funds we raise,” said Dale Lyon.
The evening’s event will benefit the American Cancer Society Orange County Region’s free patient programs and services and lifesaving cancer research. About the American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community.
We save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; by helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight.
As the nation’s largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing about $3.4 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, more than 11 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year.
