2012 SABCS Update – The Future of Breast Cancer Treatment
Breastlink – Rancho Mirage to Share Insights from the 2012 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium at Gilda’s Club Desert Cities
Rancho Mirage, Calif., February 5, 2013 – Breastlink Medical Group, a network of comprehensive breast health centers, announced Surgical Oncologist Janet Ihde, M.D., M.D. will provide a free, public talk covering key findings from the 2012 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) at Gilda’s Club Desert Cities. Drs. Ihde attended the 2012 SABCS, which was held December 4-8, 2012 in San Antonio, Texas.
“Many of the most important developments in the treatment of breast cancer are announced at San Antonio every December,” said Dr. Ihde. “Not only do breast cancer advocates and doctors learn from some of the brightest minds in the field of breast cancer research, we gain a unique perspective what the future of breast cancer treatment may become. This helps us better treat Coachella Valley breast cancer patients.”
“One of the key findings announced at this year’s Symposium was results from the international ATLAS (Adjuvant Tamoxifen — Longer Against Shorter) study,” said Breastlink. “The ATLAS trial showed women receiving tamoxifen for 10 years following surgery demonstrated a decreased risk for having the cancer come back as compared to those women taking tamoxifen for 5 years. Cancer-related death was also decreased in the 10-year group. This report will change recommendations made by breast cancer oncologists.”
SABCS is an annual breast cancer convention that brings together more than 7,000 academic researchers, private physicians and health care professionals. It is one of the most important breast cancer conventions in the world.
