Dr. Tchaiko Parris
Tchaiko Parris, M.D., Ph.D., is the director of breast imaging at Breastlink Temecula Valley. Dr. Parris is a board-certified radiologist. She interprets breast-imaging studies (digital mammography, breast automated ultrasound and breast MRI, amongst others) and performs breast biopsy procedures.
Dr. Tchaiko Parris graduated from Hunter College of the City University of New York in 1998 with a BA in Molecular and Cellular Biology (Special Honors Curriculum). She then attended Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York on a full scholarship as a candidate of the Medical Scientist Training Program. She completed her dual degree in May 2006 after defending her thesis on the Analysis of the Mouse Msh2S637P mutation in DNA Mismatch Repair, Recombination and Cancer Development in the department of Cellular Biology.
Intrinsically she knew that she wanted to take care of women and promote their health issues. Therefore, after she entered radiology, the choice of specialty was clear; for the field of mammography combined both of her passions. Her main attraction to the field of breast imaging stemmed from her desire to interact with the breast surgeons and oncologists with whom she felt allowed her to partake in the reduction and potential elimination of breast cancer.
Dr. Parris completed her post-graduate internship training at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, followed by a Radiology Residency at the Norwalk Yale Program in Connecticut. During residency she was the chief resident from 2010-2011. She became board-certified in radiology after passing her boards in 2011.
She then attended the University of Maryland Medical Center and completed her fellowship in breast imaging in 2011. Worked at the Guthrie Clinic – Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre PA Department of Radiology as an Associate Radiologist – Subspecialty -Breast Imaging.
Dr. Parris is board certified in the state of Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York and California. She has many publications, the most recent pertained to the breast density law in Connecticut entitled, Real World Performance of Screening Breast Ultrasound Following Enactment of Connecticut Bill 458 that was published in The Breast Journal.
She has received several honors, including the William E. Cronin Award for outstanding radiology resident, the Steffan R. Buchhloz prize for outstanding premedical undergraduate and the Jonas E. Salk Award for outstanding research.
Dr. Parris is a member of several societies including the New York Roentgen Society, Society of Breast Imaging, Radiological Society of North America, American College of Radiology, National Medical Association, Percy Julian Association, Student National Medical Association and the American Medical Association.
Dr. Parris’s medical training has continuously called for her to give a hundred percent and at times more, and on each occasion she has responded by striving for excellence.
“I have always had a keen interest in women’s studies and women’s health. My goal, throughout my medical training, was to help women with their health and to promote women’s health issues. As a breast-imaging radiologist I am able to interact with breast surgeons, breast cancer oncologists, breast reconstruction specialists and psychotherapists – this allows me to actively partake in helping women reduce, and potentially eliminate, breast cancer.” – Dr. Tchaiko Parris, director of breast-imaging at Breastlink Temecula Valley.
